November 2009 Tree Request Deadline March 1, 2009

Hello Folks,

If you (or someone you know) live in 19125 or 19134 and wants but does not yet have a tree planted on the sidewalk in front of your home or in your front yard please apply for a tree to be planted in November of 2009. To apply download and complete our application from our website and get it to us as soon as possible and no later than March 1, 2009: http://phillytreepeople.googlepages.com/

We'd like to plant 100 trees in November 2009 - so send us your applications. Help us meet our goal.

If you have a stump - please send us an email with a completed Philly Tree People Fall 2009 Property Owner Tree Request Form as well as the Fairmount Park Tree Request Form (this is a total of two different request forms). We have a group of people who have stumps to be removed and we will be arranging a list to send to Fairmount Park with the hopes that they will have the time and resources to handle an organized and group stump removal request.

As a reminder - we are volunteers and do not work for PHS, TreeVitalize or Fairmount Park but we do work with employees of those organizations on behalf of homeowners to get trees planted.

Please contact us if you have any questions. Thanks.

Thank you very much!!!

Thank you to the dozens of volunteers who came out on November 16, 2008. Volunteers from all over the city helped to plant 85 of the 95 trees we planted in total this Fall. We could not have done this without your help and support.

We'll have many more opportunities to volunteer to plant and do other work related to tree plantings coming soon - as soon as March/April 2009 which is when our next planting will take place. Details will be announced asap.

Sustainable Christmas Trees are available at Greensgrow farm

Sustainable Christmas Trees are available at Greensgrow farm. Our trees are locally grown here in Pennsylvania (did you know most Xmas trees come from Canada?!) They were freshly cut on the 17th of November. You will receive biodegradable netting and removal bags as part of your purchase. You also have the option of buying a ball + burlap tree that we will plant somewhere in the neighborhood if you return it the farm after the holidays. All that adds up to a truly sustainable tree!

We're now requesting applications for Street Trees

We are planning a Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 street tree planting. The form is available in several formats on our website at: http://phillytreepeople.googlepages.com/

Please return completed forms by the due date: Saturday, April 19, 2008.
(Please note: If faxing your form the fax deadline is 3 PM Friday, April 18, 2008.)

Only homeowners can request that a tree be planted - you cannot request a tree on behalf of someone else. Please note that you will be notified of the price (probably around $30-$40) and whether or not you have been approved for the Spring or Fall planting as soon as we know.

We're hoping to plant up to 100 trees in the Fall and we will need lots of volunteers. We don't know when the trees will arrive and won't know the planting date until the Fall.

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who came out to help plant. We'll be adding a few more thank yous to our web site's thank you page. We had around 100 people or maybe a few more come out and help plant 72 trees today. You are all awesome.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(We have 1 missing stake pounder, one missing red and black bag with tools in it and 2 trees went missing. If you happen to spot these in your truck or car please return these to us - we borrowed the tools and will have to pay to replace them. The stake pounder is ours - brand new and we used money donated to us by folks like you to buy it . Somehow two trees went missing today - if you happen to know anything about them please contact us.)

Attention Home Owners getting trees in March 2008

The money is due March 1, 2008! The trees cost $30 each. We would appreciate everyone covering the cost of their trees if possible. Any additional donations are also greatly appreciated. Money is due by the end of this month. Please arrange to drop off cash or check to Dina, Nykia, or Jacelyn.

We would appreciate any help you can give on planting day: Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 10 AM. Volunteers will be meeting at Dina's house (2771 Jasper Street, Phila., 19134) to divide into groups and distribute trees. Please be prepared to have a water source available at your house or on your block so we can get the trees watered after planting.

Also, please consider making your restroom available for volunteers working near your house, if needed? (We were instructed to have bathrooms available for volunteers.)

We are having lunch and libations at the Philadelphia Brewing Company (formerly Yards) after the planting.

The contractors have begun cutting sidewalks this week and they will continue to be cutting throughout the neighborhood until all of the tree pits are cut. You may have spray paint on your sidewalk - these marks are from the utility companies indicating where the utilities are under ground. The contractor will not cut into the sidewalk where the utilities are located - they will work around them.

Thanks!!!

Please email us if you have any questions at phillytreepeople@gmail.com.

Thank you to everyone who requested trees and to everyone who has supported us one way or another thus far!

Call For Volunteers: Week of March 10-14, 2008

At the moment we're looking for about 8-12 people who can be on call during the following days to help us process, sort and pick up the trees from Fairmount Park which is where they will be delivered by the tree nursery. At this point we don't know which day the trees will arrive or what time we'll be expected to show up. We do know it will take approximately 4 hours and the trees will arrive on one of the days during the week of March 10-14, 2008.

If you are interested in volunteering for this job specifically send us an email (phillytreepeople@gmail.com) and tell us which days during that week you are available.

We'll need volunteers for several other tasks as well and will provide details soon.

Thank You to PHS

Thank you to the PHS (Pennsylvania Horticultural Society) for planning to cut all of the sidewalks and properly disposing of the rubble for our neighborhoods for free this year.

This was going to be a time consuming task and costly task for our group and the neighbors that had volunteered to lend hand, their equipment and expertise.

Now we have more time to plan the rest of the tasks, details, and the lunch for volunteers that will happen after the trees are planted.
